ImageEngine … Image Export not only for Acrobat Professional(s)!

Vers. Date Fixes Changes
2.0.1 08/11/2005 Fixed a resource conflict which could cause Acrobat 5.05 (under Mac OS 9 as well as Mac OS X) to crash when using the "Safe As…" menu. -
2.0 05/11/2005 General bug fixing and increasing of stability.

Starting with version 2.0 ImageEngine offers a possibility to be included into a workflow.

ImageEngine uses the method of "Watched Folders".

The Standard-Edition ImageEngine 2.0 Std offers up to 3 Watched Folders. Every Watched Folder can have individual settings.

The functions

  • Inspect
  • Extract
  • Export
  • Render
  • Render PDF
  • Render Pages

are applicable. The watching can be activated or deactivated for any or all of the Watched Folders.

In addition to the Standard-Edition ImageEngine 2.0 Std the Pro-Edition ImageEngine 2.0 Pro is available, which distincts from Standard-Edition by the unlimited number of Watched Folders.

The Standard-Edition ImageEngine 2.0 Std is available for registered users of version 1.xx as a free update.

Registered users of version 1.xx are eligible to upgrade to ImageEngine 2.0 Pro.

1.2.1 03/12/2005 1. Fixed an error in the "Render PDF" function which prevented to convert rotated pages accuratly.

2. Some missing GUI elements in the setup dialog of the "Render PDF" function in the plug-in for Acrobat 5 have been supplemented.
The "Render PDF" function has been extended with an option "Don't Render Text". This allows to exclude text elements of the pages from conversion into the page image. The text elements of the pages are available in the destination document in the same way as in the source document.
1.2.0 02/20/2005 General bug fixing and increasing of stability. 1. Starting from version 1.2 ImageEngine is compatible with Adobe Acrobat 7.

2. It is now possible to export images in the TIFF format.

3. The new "Render PDF" function combines the "Render Pages" function and the "Import" function and converts the original PDF document into a image based PDF with one step.

4. ImageEngine offers an own toolbar.
1.1.3 12/22/2004 1. Fixed an error in calculating the size of images, which are elements of a PDF container. This error could cause a number of consecutive errors, i.e. unproportional distortions, in the "Export" function as well as in other functions.

2. Fixed an error in the "Inspect" function that prevented to render or export the intended image using the respective link.

3. Fixed a problem in the functions "Render Images" and "Render Pages" that could lead to produce images, which exceed the maximally possible width of 16384 bytes per row.

4. Fixed an error in the "Export" function in calculating the image data of grayscale or color images with 4 or 2 bits per color component. This error could could cause Acrobat to a crash when working in the demo mode.
-
1.1.2 09/22/2004 1. Fixed a problem which could cause Acrobat to crash when opening the settings window from the document dialog.

2. Fixed a problem with the "Export" function which caused to export some types of monochrome images with inverted gray values.
-
1.1.1 02/18/2004 1. Fixed a problem with the "Export" function which could cause Acrobat to crash when exporting monochrome images.

2. Fixed a problem with the "Import" function which could cause Acrobat to crash when importing color or grayscale images using the downsampling feature.
The settings of the "Import" function have been extended to allow the user to decide, whether all or only the first image of multiple images in a single file will be imported (some image formats, e.g. the TIFF format can have multiple images in a single file).
1.1 11/24/2003 1. In cases where a default color space key is present in the resource dictionary of a PDF page, this default color space has not been recognized. Accordingly the default color space information has not been considered for the applicable images. With the Export function for example, it could happen that an ICC profile which resides in the default color space has not been embedded into the exported image. This problem could arise only for images with one of the color spaces DeviceGray, DeviceRGB or DeviceCMYK.

2. Even though the user entered a valid password to allow "Content Copying or Extraction" this permission was not given. Therefore the appropriate function was executed only formally without really processing the images of the entire document. This problem could arise with Adobe Acrobat 6 only.
1. The "Import" function supports the JPEG2000 compression method for color and grayscale images. This feature is only available with Adobe Acrobat 6.

2. The "Import" function supports the JBIG2 compression method for monochrome images. This feature is only available with Adobe Acrobat 6.

3. The "Inspect" function recognizes the JPEG2000 and the JBIG2 compression method.

4. The "Export" function supports images with 16 bits per color component, introduced with PDF 1.5. The export settings have been extended to allow export of 16 bit images with 8 bits or 16 bits per color component. This feature is only available with Adobe Acrobat 6.

5. The "Inspect" function recognizes images with 16 bits per color component.

6. The "Inspect" function shows the profile description of the ICC profile for images with the color space "ICCBased".

7. The "Inspect" function shows the name of the separation color for images with the color space "Separation".

8. The adjustment of the Creator Code in the settings panel for the Export, Render and Render Pages functions has been improved.

9. Due to the divergence of the settings for the different variants of the plug-in for Adobe Acrobat 5 and Adobe Acrobat 6 respectively, the settings are saved in separate settings files. This means, that it is no longer possible to share the same settings between Adobe Acrobat 5 and Adobe Acrobat 6, working both on the same computer.
1.0.4 11/06/2003 Fixed a bug with the Importer Settings which prevented from activating or deactivating individual importers. This problem occurred with Adobe Acrobat 6 only. -
1.0.3 10/27/2003 Fixed a problem with export of mask images with the "Export" Function. 1. User interface alignment concerning Mac OS X 10.3 Panther.

2. The "Export" function can now be applied to inline images too.
1.0.2 10/16/2003 Fixed a resource conflict which could cause Acrobat 5.05 (under Mac OS 9 as well as Mac OS X) to crash when using the "Safe As…" menu. -
1.0.1 10/09/2003 Fixed a memory leak which could cause Acrobat 5.05 (working under Mac OS X) to crash. 1. A German user interface and a German documentation are available now.

2. According to the Acrobat 6.0 User Interface Guidelines in the Adobe Acrobat 6 version the ImageEngine menu is added to the "Advanced" menu instead of the "Plug-Ins" menu.

3. Added a pop-up menu in the General Settings tab to allow to choose between A4 and US Letter page sizes for generated PDF documents.
